Charleston, WV -

This St. Patrick’s Day a rainbow will lead to Capitol Market, with contestants from around the nation hoping their green chili wins them the pot of gold and a place in the World Championships later this year.

The Capitol Market Green Chili Shootout, the nation’s largest Green Chili cook off, will be held this Saturday on St. Patrick’s Day at the Capitol Market. More than 40 cooks will participate for a bid to the World Championship Chili Cookoff in Omaha, NE.

The event, which begins at 12:30 p.m. at Capitol Market, will feature 22 cooks who have participated in at least one World Championship and five cooks who have obtained the title Grand Master.

“The Green Chili Shootout continues to amaze me,” said Tammy Borstnar, director of Capitol Market. “We not only have more cooks than we’ve ever had before, but we have many of the nation’s best Green Chili cooks competing.”

In addition to the World Championship bid, the winner will receive $1,000 cash. Second and third place will receive $300 and $200 respectively.

The event will feature green beer, music from the Voo Doo Katz, face painting for the kids and a cornbread contest.

The Capitol Market Green Chili Shootout is sponsored by The Manahan Group and the City of Charleston. Proceeds from the cook off will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
